Many countries wish to be sure that I am properly authorised to act as a notary. This is done by a procedure called Legalisation. For most countries this means applying to the Legalisation Office of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Milton Keynes for an apostille under The Hague Convention.
Some countries further require notarised documents to be legalised by their Embassies, a process known as Consular Legalisation.
I normally arrange legalisation. The current Foreign Office fee is £30.00 per document (which is the standard apostille service). The current fee for the premium service provided by Centre Point is £75.00.
The fees charged by the Embassies vary widely from a few pounds to around £100.00 or more. I can usually tell you what the fees are likely to be and further advise of each countries’ specific requirements.
When I notarise a document, I can tell you whether or not it needs an apostille. If it does I can normally arrange for this to be done. There will be an additional cost for this. Alternatively, If you need your document legalised quickly you can take it to the FCO or the relevant Embassy yourself.
